Our Jatropha test-field in Vientiane province:

Our Jatropha field in Vientiane province

One of the first programs of LIRE will be to explore the potential of Jatropha curcas as a biofuel plant for Lao conditions. A set of project proposals is being formulated that encompass the whole chain from how villagers can profitably produce the fruits, how these fruits can be pressed in the village, how the oil can be processed further into motor-grade fuel, how the motors have to be adapted to manage this fuel, how the motors can drive generators or pumps or vehicles, and finally how to efficiently organize the financial and operational transactions along the whole chain.
